Job Description
WWF-Pakistan is working on various projects for the conservation of freshwater through nature-based solutions. The projects aim to engage different stakeholders for water replenishment and treatment, along with the provision of WASH services and training in the communities of Karachi.
Job Summary: The Senior Project Officer will be responsible for executing water stewardship projects within identified communities and ensuring the sustainability of interventions. The position involves community mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and compliance with environmental and social safeguards.
Below are the detailed responsibilities:
· Able to carry out feasibility assessment of project sites for the specific intervention and ensure its sustainability
· Ensure the sustainability of the interventions during site selection, data gathering, communities interview and all the aspects required for the sustainability of the intervention
· Development of survey forms, site assessment reports and planning of the monitoring visits in the selected communities
· Mobilize the communities for the installation/construction of the related interventions
· Facilitate the development and strengthening of functional community-based organizations (CBOs) to ensure effective community participation, ownership, and sustainability of water stewardship projects.
· Organize awareness sessions in communities with the maximum representation of the female participants
· Engage relevant stakeholders including communities, government departments, Union Councils, local NGOs etc for the smooth implementation of the project and to promote collective action approach
· Ensure respect for religious, social, cultural, and ethnic aspects during surveys and community engagement in accordance with WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguard Framework (ESSF) policy.
· Support other freshwater projects in the region Any other task assigned by the supervisor related to the project
Selection Criteria
· Bachelors or Masters/MPhil in Environmental Sciences, Sociology, agronomics, anthropology and other relevant domain
· 2-3 years of relevant experience
· Awareness of social, cultural and religious sensitivity in the region
Other Skills and Abilities:
· Aptitude for teamwork and fieldwork.
· Good command of English and Urdu; Sindhi and Pushto is a plus point
· Proficient in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS Excel.
· Knowledge and understanding of recording meeting minutes.
· Ability to communicate ideas and thoughts clearly. - Sensitivity to gender and other current social issues in Pakistan.
· Demonstrated advocacy skills.
